The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design’s annual GOOD DESIGN ® Awards Program recognizes the most innovative and cutting-edge industrial, product, and graphic design work from around the globe.
Founded in Chicago in 1950, GOOD DESIGN remains the oldest and most recognized program for outstanding design worldwide.
Of the several thousand design submissions received last year, Shikatani Lacroix was honoured for its design excellence in the 2015 Environments category for Cineplex VIP Cinemas.
About the project:
SLD has been Cineplex Entertainment’s design AOR for over 15 years. To help refine and enhance Cineplex’s position as Canada’s premier entertainment brand, SLD was brought on board to design a premium VIP offering by providing a superior movie going experience. SLD designed a warm, inviting environment with contemporary decor, subtle digital screen experiences and a variety of intimate seating to ensure all guests feel VIP.
The Cineplex VIP Cinemas at Shops at Don Mills, located in Toronto, Ontario, is the first stand-alone Cineplex VIP Cinemas in Canada.
About the award:
The emphasis of the GOOD DESIGN program is on quality design of the highest form, function, and aesthetics. The Chicago Athenaeum’s GOOD DESIGN program “forwards the ideals of a design process that embodies product excellence and endurance and strong public identity.”
According to its website, the GOOD DESIGN program judges submissions through “a jury of distinguished design professionals, leading industry specialists and design press on criteria established in the original 1950 program for the highest aesthetic in terms of innovative design, new technologies, form, materials, construction, concept, function, utility, and energy efficiency, and sensitivity to the environment.”
